As the temperatures get cold here in Chicago, I start to look for warm comforting foods for dinner. Of course, I want to keep them light, healthy and not too heavy, while satisfying at the same time. This recipe for Chicken Pot Pie is perfect! There's no guilt and will definitely keep you warm inside.
It's important to remember that anything we put on our skin gets absorbed into the bloodstream. This includes soaps and hand sanitizers which is what I want to discuss here. Of course, we need to wash and clean our hands regularly to keep the germs away, but do you consider any of the ingredients found in many of the soaps and sanitizers out there? So many of them are filled with chemicals, that we really aren't cleansing ourselves as much as we think.
I love sitting outside on my patio on a perfect summer night. Then, the sun goes down and the mosquitoes come out, thus cutting my night in the outdoors short. No more! This recipe for homemade bug spray has certainly kept the bugs away, and its much better on your skin than toxic chemical based bug sprays on the market today. Bugs repel the scents of lavender and lemongrass, among a few others, so feel free to buy the plants and scatter them around the outside of your home. Otherwise, spritz t...
Pizza is something I never buy, or rarely eat as it’s usually filled with processed ingredients, and heavy breads and cheeses which is something my stomach doesn’t really like.
I have been experimenting with the cauliflower crust as an option for making my own pizzas at home, and it does work quite well. However, now it seems like many food companies are realizing this trend are creating frozen pizzas, and saying they are healthy, when in fact, they are still loaded with starchy, salty ingredients....
About a month ago, I started to notice some body changes. I gained 4 pounds out of nowhere and I made no major changes to my diet and exercise. I became very bloated, and extremely fatigued, especially in the afternoon. Also, I was experiencing headaches every day, and my periods were coming every 2 weeks! (Yeah, that sucked!)
I'm pretty in tune to my body, and how to take care of it, but I knew something was wrong, and had to be fixed.
When I researched what else I could do, I decide to p...
I've been searching for a gluten-free cookies that tastes good. I'll be honest, many that I've tried just lacked the sweetness and texture of a real cookie. Just because something is healthy, doesn't mean it should lack flavor. I think this one is great! It's gluten-free and dairy-free, as well kid approved! (my kids loved them).
1 cup almond butter (I use crunchy, but creamy is good too, for those with peanut allergies)
I recently held a wellness party at my house, and I wanted my guests to have a soothing scrub to wash their hands with. It was a great success! Sugar can not absorb into your skin so not only is it good for hands, but also can be used in the shower for body exfoliation.
Every year, I used to head over to McDonald's for a Shamrock Shake on St. Patrick's Day. Now knowing how much sugar is in one of those (more than 85 grams in case you didn't know), I avoid them and have created a much healthier version. The kids love this one too! It doesn't have to be just on St. Patrick's Day, this shake can be made year round. Enjoy!
2 cups milk of choice (I use almond milk)
1 tsp mint extract or 2 tbls of liquid chlorophyll (I love using Nature's...
So when you’re asked by someone “what is your favorite food”, what do you say? Mine happens to be an Avocado. I love them for so many reasons.
First of all, they are very good for you. Avocados provide numerous health benefits, as they are naturally rich in nutrients and contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals, including vitamins C, E, K, and B-6. Avocados are also an excellent source of healthy fats, as well as omega-3s, which are beneficial for cardiovascular health. Avocados are also an exc...
