I've been reading numerous articles about "golden" lattes. I'll be honest, at first I was a little leery of this, but I know that turmeric is such an amazing spice with so many healthy effects. Turmeric produces a compound known as curcumin, which has a number of medicinal properties. One of these is that it can help to protect against the effects of Alzheimer's disease, increasing overall memory function, and well as diabetes.
Not only does it have great health benefits, turmeric is also great for your skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties mean it can help to reduce redness and skin irritation. It's also a great exfoliant, meaning it can help to improve the overall texture of the skin.
I decided to try this latte in the evening after dinner to settle in before going to sleep. it really set the tone for me to unwind after a busy day. Not to mention I enjoyed the warm flavors it provided. You can try it at night, or replace it with your morning espresso latte. Much healthier alternative!
By they way, if you see something similar show up on a Starbucks menu, avoid it! More than likely, they'll have added sugar to it, thus losing its nutrition.
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 cup milk ( I recommend almond, but you can also use coconut milk or unhomogenized organic cow/goat milk)
- 1 tsp of coconut oil
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- Pinch of cardamom powder or cinnamon powder (optional)
- 1 tsp of honey
Use a blender, quickly blend all the ingredients, and pour into a small saucepan. Turn the heat on medium and warm up mixture to a lukewarm to hot level.
